A Letter from Judy Wagner on how to to enter the Monroe County Fair.

BQG members,

You may have wondered how to enter items in the fair. The only requirement is that you must be a resident of Monroe County or a member of a Monroe County Extension Club, or a member in another Indiana county. Men and women are eligible.

The Monroe County Extension Office has the fair books with all the categories, rules, and information you need to know.

You can also access the Open Class information at monroecountyfairgrounds.in. Click on Fair Schedule. Then click on 2024 Open Class Information & Schedule. Then click Open Class Exhibit Requirements and 2024 will appear.

The Extension office is located at 3400 S Walnut. Phone number is 812-349-2575. Hours are 8 to 4 M-F. The fairgrounds are open June 30 to July 7.

I have been named the superintendent of the Quilt division so I would love to see you and your quilts. The first printing has an incorrect phone number for me. It should be 812-345-3114.

There are nearly 60 possible categories in which quilts can be entered. Quilts must be delivered to the Community Building at the fairgrounds on Wednesday, June 26, 2024 between 3:00pm and 7:00pm. There will be many people there to assist you and direct you to the correct area.

There are entries for hand pieced and hand quilted. Machine pieced and quilted. Quilts you made and someone else quilted. Miscellaneous quilts like T-Shirt quilts, comforters, miniature quilts, group made quilts, household items like table runners and pillows, quilted clothing and quilts made by children younger than 16 years old. Quilts DO NOT need a sleeve with the exception of wallhangings. If you enter an item as a wall hanging, it must be ready to hang. In the Crib Quilt division, ignore the measurements listed. Enter as a small quilt or throw. Quilts must be made within the last 5 years.

Also, since you are making the trip, there are many other categories for crafts, food preservation, holiday crafts, knitting, crochet, weaving, photography, sewing and more. All due on Wednesday, June 26 same location.

I know there are a number of Guild members who are fabulous bakers. Those items are due Monday, July, 1 between 9:00am and 11:00am. Categories are breads, cakes, cookies, pies, candies and more.

There are also categories for those with green thumbs. Check the book or on line for dates and divisions.

And the Fair has a special category called Bake-It. This year the special ingredient is APPLE. These entries are due on Friday, July 5, 2024 between 10:00 and noon. This is an open judging contest so you can hear what the judges look for in a champion dish.  You can enter yeast breads, quick breads, cake, cookies, pie, and special desserts.

See you at the fair!  Judy Wagner
