She has numerous awards from national shows, as well as a quilt in the International Quilt Museum. She also holds degrees in Piano from Baylor and Indiana University, and will be coming back to Bloomington as a teacher at IHQS in March. Read more about Karen here: https://karenkstonequilts.com.
Congregation Beth Shalom is hosting a display of R.J. Trubitt’s quilts, a former member of both the synagogue and a long-time member of the Bloomington Quilters Guild. Her quilts will remain on display through our February meeting so that we can enjoy them.
Sew Days Saturday February 8, 2025 and MARCH 15, 2025
Sew Day Saturday February 8, 9:00-4:00, St. Mark's United Methodist Church. This is a “make-up” sew day and we will return to the planned sew day schedule March 15, 2025. Hopefully we won't be snowed out this time! This is your chance for a "mini retreat" with friends or to finish up projects for IHQS. Come meet new people and get inspired! Bring your lunch and a $5 donation to the church. Come when you can and stay as long as you like.
Board Members for next year, July 2025-June 2026
Most of our current Board Members have served two years and are planning to retire. Our Guild needs enthusiastic leadership to maintain its strength and move ahead. Be thinking how you might step up to bring your ideas and skills to the BQG Board.
MARCH meeting
On March 4, Tara Miller will talk in person, providing a lecture titled, “Quilting With the Fire of My Foremothers.” She will focus on design, color, and the history of quilt making. Tara produced numerous live stream shows in partnership with the International Quilt Museum and sponsored by Quiltfolk magazine. Her YouTube channel is The Quilt District. She will bring all this knowledge and skill to Indiana Heritage Quilt Show (IHQS) as a teacher. Sign up for her (or any of the other teachers) workshops here: https://www.ihqs.org/workshops-2025 Read more about Tara here: https://quiltdistrict.com/
The Indiana Heritage Quilt Show (IHQS) is March 6-8, 2025 so make sure to get those dates on your calendars!
February 10th is the deadline for entering your quilts and it is fast approaching!!! Go ahead and enter your quilts even if it is not quite finished. The quilts do not need to be completed and in our hands until March 1st.
IHQS is not a juried show, so all quilts entered will be included in the show. We welcome all levels of quilters, so please, don't be shy ! We want to see your quilts! There are categories for pieced, applique, mixed media, youth, art and modern quilts, in addition to our challenge category.
The Challenge quilt this year is all about birthstones - yours or borrow someone else's! The color of the birthstone should be 50% or more as the major color of the quilt. And the finished size of the quilt must be 30" x 30". Any techniques may be used.
All details for entering your quilts can be found on the website ihqs.org under "Quilt Entry Rules"
We also want to remind you about our workshops. Having nationally known teachers come to IHQS is pretty special and we hope that you all will take advantage of the opportunity....there is a wide variety and there's something for everyone! Free motion quilting, piecing, applique, hand work...whether a new quilter or seasoned there's something there for you! If you are considering taking a class, it's best to sign up sooner than later so that we can keep the wonderful line up of teachers that we have. Do not wait until it's too late!
See you at the show !

Community Quilts
Kids quilts are especially needed for organizations including WIC, Indiana Department of Child Services and The Villages. We are doing a commendable job for Middleway House and New Hope but we have requests for kids quilts that are not being met. Please consider donating nonspecified kids quilts for our community. You can see more information and details on the Guild’s website. They don’t have to be elaborate. Let’s just keep all of our children warm this winter.

TREE Quilt - The 2024/2025 Guild Challenge
Every year, there is a quilt challenge, issued by the winner of the previous year’s challenge. This year Jane Pitt issues the challenge Trees!
Quilters have been representing trees in their work for centuries.
Plain or fancy, pieced, appliquéd, or embroidered, trees are always welcomed in quilts. So grab your preferred method and let’s grow some trees! Your entry in our challenge can be any size or shape, but must be quilted and bound, and ready for our June 2025 guild meeting. For more information and to see pictures of winners of previous years see the challenge web page.
