January 2025 Meeting

Come to a “Display of Quilt Talent.”  The categories are

  • applique—fabric or wool,

  • scrappy—can include but not limited to mysteries/strings/friendship collaborations/neckties/shirts,

  • artsy—portraits/art quilts/modern/solids/made fabric/contemporary,

  • by hand—quilting/hexies/EPP/embroidery

  • small etc.—bags, place mats, jackets, toaster covers, ornaments, you name it!

There will be separate areas for each category.  A helper will stay at each station to help facilitate showing items while everyone else will rotate through.  Projects for display must be finished, bound, and labeled (permanent or temporary) to be sure they are returned to the owner.  Even if your friends have seen your project long ago, newer members will be interested to see it too.  Just bring it to share.  If your project fits into more than one category, we don’t mind.  Just bring it to share.  If you think your project isn’t “good enough” just bring it to share anyway.  We really want to see your work!  Can you imagine the wonderful variety we might view from our folks throughout the guild?  Please shine your light and share your talents at the January meeting.

Community Quilts

Quilters!  Start your engines (or thread those needles) because we need your help. We have various organizations who have counted on us in the past to generously provide community quilts. These organizations include WIC, Indiana Department of Child Services and The Villages. Sadly, our community quilts for these and other  organizations are down. We are doing a commendable job for Middleway House and New Hope!  But right now we have requests for kids quilts that are not being met. Because we don’t have the quilts!

Please consider donating some nonspecified kids quilts for our community. You can see more information and details about making and donating kids quilts on the Guild’s website.  They don’t have to be elaborate. Let’s just keep all of our children warm this winter.

Check the community quilts web page to see where the 270 quilts that have been donated since July 2024 have gone! Thank you to the many generous people who have donated quilts!!!

MemberShip Contact List

If you got your dues in by November 15, you should have received a contact list in your email. If you need a hardcopy list, contact our president, Legene White, president@bloomingtonquiltersguild.org

TREE Quilt - The 2024/2025 Guild Challenge

Every year, there is a quilt challenge, issued by the winner of the previous year’s challenge. This year Jane Pitt issues the challenge Trees!

Quilters have been representing trees in their work for centuries.

Plain or fancy, pieced, appliquéd, or embroidered, trees are always welcomed in quilts. So grab your preferred method and let’s grow some trees! Your entry in our challenge can be any size or shape, but must be quilted and bound, and ready for our June 2025 guild meeting. For more information and to see pictures of winners of previous years see the challenge web page.

Orphan Block Bee

It has been 3 years since we started to collect leftover and unwanted blocks (orphans) to make donation quilts.  Since that time about 18 people have contributed in various ways to complete and donate about 80 quilts!  Starting in January,  the "Orphan Block Bee" will start meeting on the second Wednesday of each month from 1:00 to 3:00 at Ginny Kopper's house, 1327 S Valley Forge Rd.

The influx of new orphan blocks seems to be unending!  If you would like to drop by and choose some blocks to make a quilt, find blocks to fill in a quilt project you are working on, or if you would like to help lay blocks out for someone to sew together, you will be welcome!  Please call Ginny if you have any questions.

Raffle Quilt

Be sure to get tickets from Sandy Bonsib at guild meetings for this year's beautiful raffle quilt. Raffle tickets are a creative holiday gift or stocking stuffer for family and friends! More information on the raffle quilt page.
